Abk. für Southern African Development Community.
- Sitz: Gaborone (Botswana); am 17.8.1992 in Windhuk gegründete regionale Organisation zur Förderung der politischen und wirtschaftlichen Zusammenarbeit im südlichen Afrika; löste die SADCC (Southern African Development Coordination Conference) ab.
- Mitglieder: Angola, Botswana, Kongo (1997), Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius (1995), Mosambik, Namibia, Seychellen (1997), Südafrika, Swasiland, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe. ⇡ Collective Self-Reliance und verstärkte Süd-Süd-Beziehungen standen im Vordergrund der gemeinsamen Bemühungen um wirtschaftlichen Fortschritt und Zusammenarbeit. Angestrebt wird eine Wirtschaftsunion nach dem Vorbild der EU. Ein Aktionsprogramm weist den einzelnen Ländern besondere Aufgabenbereiche zu, z.B. Tanzania: Industrie und Handel; Swasiland: Human Resources; Angola: Energie.
